Province working to have more social workers in smaller communities

The Provincial government is upping the pay for social workers in small communities.

The government announced social workers in hard to recruit areas will be paid an additional $3,000 to $6,000 a year, with payments beginning in April 2017.

Minister of Children and Family Development Stephanie Cadieux says their work and the lack of support is difficult for the workers.

She says senior social workers will receive the full $6,000, while those with less than two years experience will receive $3,000.

Cadieux says she hopes the pay increase is a step towards attracting new social workers, and keeping the existing workers in hard to recruit areas.
