Canada 150 Murals to be Unveiled Wednesday

A major project in Port Hardy is set to be revealed as part of National Aboriginal Day celebrations.

The Canada 150 murals will be officially unveiled tomorrow morning.

District Councillor Pat Corbett-Labatt says as they were looking for a project for Canada’s 150, they also wanted a project that celebrated the history of First Nations in the region.

She says it’s been amazing to see the carvers working on the mural over the last few months.

“Doing the murals and putting them up at the Civic Centre, we thought that would be one way where everyone who goes into the Civic Centre will not only see the mural that’s already there, but will also see these amazing murals that celebrate the history of Aboriginals on the North Island.”

The unveiling is taking place at Carrot Park at 10 AM on June 21st, followed by a feast at the Kwakiutl big house.
