Forest Minister promises to continue fight against U.S.-imposed lumber duties

BC’s Minister of Forests says the province is committed to continuing to fight against duties imposed by the United States.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has introduced preliminary anti-dumping duties of more than 6%, bringing the total duties to more than 26%.

Minister John Rustad says it’s upsetting that the U.S. feels the need to take this kind of action.

“There are more than 140 communities across the province that are connected and depend upon our forest industry.”

He adds that, “British Columbia will continue to fight to make sure that our interests are taken care of, that we do what we can for the working families in this province and we’ll make sure that we get a fair deal.”

Rustad says the government continues to believe the best outcome is a negotiated agreement between the two sides.
