An over-payment scam is making the rounds targeting businesses.
Rosalind Scott of the Better Business Bureau says business owners should educate their staff about the scam. “Share this information with your staff and no how an over-payment scam works,” she says.
“If anybody is saying we’ll overpay or that in fact they have over-paid, you really need to say no, no, no, you cancel it on your end and pay me the correct amount of money.”

Scott notes that the scam starts with an email from someone posing as a customer who wants to purchase a very specific product.
She says there’s also a third party involved and the business is asked to charge the customer more than the value of the product and then refund the over-payment to that third party.
