SPCA reminding drivers to keep pets in the back seat

The BC SPCA is reminding pet owners not to have pets in the passenger seat while driving.

Spokesperson Cindy Krapiec says having your pet in the front seat can be dangerous.

“Not only can it be really distracting for drivers or [other] drivers on the road but they can also become quite dangerous if you were to get into an accident or you needed to stop quickly.”

Krapiec says if you are travelling with your pet, the best options are to use a harness that can be hooked to a seat belt or have them in a crate.

“Having your animal in the back is a really great option. There are some fantastic supplies that you can get from pet supply stores now. You can get a seat-belt that’s made for your dog that just clips into a harness.”
