How to Prevent Serious Falls

1 in 3 people over the age of 65 fall each year, and many suffer serious injuries requiring weeks of hospitalization or bed-rest.

The BC Falls and Injury Prevention Coalition is trying to raise awareness about ways to prevent falls, especially among seniors.

Heather Fudge is a Clinical Nurse specializing in Senior’s Health. She says seniors should stay physically active, and remove tripping hazards in their home.

Fudge says serious falls often cause seniors to lose their independence. 40% of residential care admissions are due to a serious fall. For more on the BC Falls and Injury Prevention Coalition, visit their official website.
