On Saturday, Port Hardy Fire crews responded to a resident structure fire on the Gwa’sala-Nakwaxkda’xw reserve.
There were 15 firefighters on scene for two hours to help extinguish the fire.
Fire chief Schell Nickerson says the fire started and remained in the basement.
Nickerson says the home had no operating smoke detectors as the fire had been burning for a long period of time.
Residents cannot return home and the fire is still under investigation.
