This Saturday, BC Ferries was forced to shut down service of the North Island Princess on the Earls Cove-Saltery Bay route due to a mechanical issue.
Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicolas Simons says there was no substitute vessel , so passengers had to wait at the terminal for hours.
BC Ferries offered free service on the route to its passengers Sunday and Monday.

Simons says the government should start looking at the ferry transportation system as an essential service.
