Port Hardy RCMP debunk reports of active shooter

RCMP in Port Hardy are asking the community to be careful posting information online after many social media posts alluded to an active shooter.

Officers responded to the area of Grey Street at around 7:45 Tuesday night, after getting a 911 call saying someone might be in possession of a gun in the bush.

They say officers were able to locate a man matching the description provided and was arrested. However, there was no firearm or other weapon found.

“We can confirm that there were no shots fired,” said Staff Sgt. Andrew Phillips. “We would like to urge the community to be careful with the information they post online to avoid unnecessary confusion and panic.”

RCMP say they have interviewed the 911 caller and are currently investigating the report.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Port Hardy RCMP at 250-949-6335.
