Temporary overnight closures extended at Cormorant Island Community Health Centre

Overnight closures of Cormorant Island’s emergency department are extended again until mid-September.

The Cormorant Island Community Health Centre’s emergency department will continue to be closed from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. until Sept. 15.

Island Health says this is because of limited staffing availability.

They say anyone experiencing a medical emergency while the department is closed should call 911, as going to the department will delay access to care.

Island Health says they have protocols in place to make sure patients have access to care.

The department will continue to be open during the day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The health authority says they are working on recruitment and strategies to secure additional nursing coverage.
