Port Hardy Hospital emergency department to close for part of the weekend

More staffing challenges mean Port Hardy Hospital’s emergency department will be closed for most of the long weekend.

Island Health says the department will be closed from 5 a.m. on Sept. 2 until 7 a.m. on Sept. 4. They say all other inpatient services will run as normal.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, the health authority asks you to call 911 or go to Port McNeill Hospital if possible. They say there are emergency protocols in place to transport patients to the right place.

If you are unsure if you are having a medical emergency, Island Health says to call HealthLink BC at 811 to speak with a registered nurse.

Residents and visitors who are in need of non-urgent care can access walk-in clinic services at the Port Hardy Primary Health Care Centre from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 2 and Sept 3.
