Port McNeill Hospital Emergency Department to temporarily close over the weekend

The emergency department at Port McNeill’s hospital will be closed for most of the weekend because of staff unavailability.

Island Health says the department will close at 5:30 p.m. today and open again on Sunday at 7 a.m. All other in-patient services will run as normal, according to Island Health.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, Island Health says to call 911 or get to Port Hardy Hospital’s emergency department if possible.

They add protocols are in place to transport patients to the appropriate area.

If you are unsure, they say to call HealthLink BC at 811 to speak with a registered nurse.
