Emergency department overnight closures to begin at Port Hardy Hospital until Friday

A staff shortage means Port Hardy Hospital’s Emergency Department will see overnight closures until Friday morning.

The department will close starting tonight at 7, reopening at 7 a.m. until Friday. It will continue to be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

All other inpatient services will continue as normal, according to Island Health.

They say anyone experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 or go to Port McNeill Hospital if possible.

Island Health says there are protocols in place to make sure patients are transported to the best place.

If anyone is unsure, they say to call HealthLink BC at 811 and talk to a registered nurse.

Island Health apologizes for any inconvenience.
