Port Hardy Hospital emergency department closed for over 24 hours

Another service interruption at Port Hardy Hospital’s emergency department will see it closed until tomorrow morning.

Island Health says the department is closed as of 5 a.m. Monday, and will not reopen until Tuesday at 7 o’clock.

The health authority asks you to either call 911 or go to the Port McNeill Hospital emergency department if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

They say to call HealthLink BC at 811 to speak with a registered nurse if you are unsure.

Island Health says protocols are in place to ensure patients get the appropriate care.

All other inpatient services will continue as normal at the hospital.

People needing same-day access to less urgent primary care can access the Port Hardy Primary Health Care Centre/A’ekaḵila’as for walk-ins from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 21.
