Browning Creek fire moved to ‘being held’ status

The fire burning near the town of Sayward is no longer out of control and is being held at around two hectares in size.

The latest update from the BC Wildfire Service means the fire on H’Kusam Mountain is unlikely to spread beyond any predetermined boundaries, but suppression efforts are still needed.

BC Wildfire Service adds the fire is suspected to be human caused. There are currently three initial and two unit-attack crews tending to the fire, along with two helicopters, skimmers and a water tender.

The service adds that over the long weekend, 46 new fires were started across the province. However, they add diligence from the public means 35 of those fires are now out, under control or being held.

Most of the fires were started in the Coastal Fire Centre and the Prince George Fire Centre, and warm and dry weather is expected to continue throughout the week.
