Dehumidifier installation this week means pool close to finally opening

After waiting for years, people will be finally able to go swimming again in the Port Hardy pool early in the new year.

A crucial piece of equipment, the dehumidifier, was finally delivered and installed this week. Once it’s fully operational, the pool can be filled with water and staff can calibrate it for swimmers. The village says testing, training, permitting, and final inspections will be completed in the first weeks of January.

The pool, built in the 1970s, has been targeted for replacement since 2016. In 2021, it developed a serious leak and after critical equipment failed, it was closed for a complete overhaul.

The pool renovation is part of upgrades to the entire aquatic centre, estimated to cost around $8.5 million.
