Mount Waddington Family Literacy Society executive director to join Island Health

The Mount Waddington Family Literacy Society is saying goodbye to its executive director, who will be taking on a new role with Island Health.

According to the society, Leslie Dyck has been with them since 2019. She started as a literacy outreach coordinator but took on the executive director position as well in 2022.

It adds Dyck has been involved in many accomplishments over the years including:

  • Leading Mount Waddington United Way Community Food Hub funding team
  • Initiating online learning during the pandemic
  • Led regional programs like Neighbourhood Small Grants
  • Managed the education assistant/community support worker program funding with North Island College

Society Board director Kathy Martin adds Leslie “embraced” her roles with lots of passion and work ethic.

“Leslie built communities that focused on literacy, learning and healthy living,” said Martin. “She strived to build literacy skills from our youngest members to our seniors.

“Her vision reached many aspects of literacy with her creative programming, addressing a need for food literacy and security.”

Dyck is taking on the role of Community Developer with Island Health. She says she is proud of her work with the society and looks forward to new challenges ahead.

“I feel grateful for the opportunity and the trust that was put in me while leading this organization,” said Dyck.

“We have a wonderful team of staff and board members who are passionate about literacy and addressing community needs.”
