Groundbreaking for new ‘Namgis Wellness Centre in Alert Bay

Dignitaries broke ground this week for the new ‘Namgis Health Centre in Alert Bay.

Community members joined the First Nations Health Authority for a formal ceremony to begin construction for the new facility.

Kelly Speck, Chair of the ‘Namgis Health Board says they are proud of the health supports the current centre has been able to provide, and are looking forward to the new building and enhanced services.

The new centre will include two buildings connected with a common courtyard. The residential building will have 16 beds with a night attendant. The main building will have spaces for reception, counselling, gathering, a commercial kitchen and more.

Construction is now underway and is expected to be complete by fall next year.
