Distracted driving penalties are rising

In 2014, 66 deaths were caused by distracted driving.

Now starting June 1, the province is raising the penalties and fines for distracted drivers.

Minister of Public Safety Mike Morris says it’s an easy decision, if you don’t engage in this risky behavior, you won’t be fined.

Morris says these increases result from their public consultation process, where 90% of respondents said they support stronger penalties to help make roads safer.
