Port Hardy RCMP investigate fatal afternoon assault  

Port Hardy RCMP say they’ve turned over an investigation to the Vancouver Island Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) after a person died from being assaulted. 

According to police, the incident happened Oct. 6, around 4:30 p.m. after they received a report of the assault in the 8800 block of Park Drive.  

A media release states the victim was transported to hospital, but the nature of the injuries proved fatal.  

Sergeant Vanessa Munn says an investigation has begun and any leads from the public are appreciated and welcome. 

“At this point, we just want anyone who has information about the incident, or who may have been in the area to reach out to our integrated major crime unit,” she says.
