Oregon coast earthquake poses no tsunami threat to BC

A significant earthquake off the Oregon coast yesterday afternoon poses no tsunami risk to BC, says the US Tsunami Warning Centre.

The Magnitude 6.1 quake was detected on Wednesday at 1:15 pm, approximately 280 kilometres west of the Oregon coast at a depth of around 10 kilometres. It was felt in California, but because of its depth, its effects were mild.

No damage was reported and none is expected from the quake.
