Mount Cain opens this weekend for powder-seeking skiers

Vancouver Island’s most northerly ski hill finally got enough snow to open this weekend.

The bottom lift at Mount Cain opened on Saturday, and today both ski lifts are now running.

Mount Cain is renowned for its powder and ski conditions, but accessing the hill requires a reliable vehicle with chains. Vehicles without chains will be turned away.

Skiers should also bring a snow shovel along in case they need to dig out after a day on the hill.

The mountain currently has a base of about 80 centimetres on the lower slopes, the uppers are left ungroomed for skiiers to enjoy the powder.

Mount Cain will be open on Saturdays and Sundays until April.
