Fishing restrictions for three Vancouver Island lakes are changing this year, after the failure of a seven-year project to produce larger fish.
That’s good news for anglers, who will be able to catch and keep more cutthroat and rainbow trout after new freshwater regulations take effect this spring.
The changes apply to Regan Lake, west of Black Creek on the central Island; Flora Lake south of Port Alberni; and Lizard Lake, near Port Renfrew.
All three lakes are regularly stocked. The province says there are no conservation concerns from cancelling the special restrictions put in place in 2017 to encourage larger fish to grow in the lakes, which were not successful.
