MP Gunn considering bid for BC Conservative Party leader race

A local federal politician is considering a potential shift from Ottawa to Victoria.

North Island – Powell River MP Aaron Gunn says he has been approached by several peers and constituents asking if he intends to seek the leadership role with the BC Conservative Party.

Gunn says he hasn’t made a final decision, but he is giving it serious consideration.

β€œOver the past week, I’ve had a lot of people reach out β€” community leaders, supporters, everyday British Columbians, and my constituents β€” encouraging me to run to be the next Premier of British Columbia,” said Gunn via social media.

In a statement via X – formerly known as Twitter – Gunn said he will make a decision before Christmas.

Currently, the provincial conservatives are being led by interim leader Trevor Halford following the resignation of former leader John Rustad earlier in December.
