Port Hardy Royal Canadian Legion shuts doors, cites volunteer shortage

The Port Hardy Royal Canadian Legion Branch 237 is weighing its options for the future.

Earlier this month, the legion announced it has closed its doors in a statement on social media.

The legion said this was due to not having enough capacity to fill executive roles and share the workload required to keep things running.

β€œOver the past while, we have put out calls for volunteers and for legion members willing to step into executive roles to help share the workload and keep things running,” said the legion. β€œUnfortunately, we haven’t been able to put enough capacity in place to continue operating sustainably.”

All members are invited to a meeting on June 4 to discuss the future of the Port Hardy legion, with organizers stressing the meeting is open to members only.

In a statement, the legion said it has been a community staple for a long time and expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported it over the years.
