Province highlights upgrades at Port Hardy Hospital

The B.C. government is highlighting recent upgrades at Port Hardy Hospital.

A new digital radiography (DR) X-ray unit and exam room were added at the hospital in May.

The province said the new state-of-the-art X-ray system replaces older technology and provides faster results and improved image quality. The new exam room also includes a patient lift to improve comfort and safety.

The upgrades cost $1 million and were funded by the Regional District of Mount Waddington and the province.

Port Hardy Mayor Pat Corbett-Labatt said the upgrades mark a significant step forward for health care in the North Island region.

β€œThe new and modern X-ray equipment at Port Hardy Hospital is a much-needed investment in our community,” said Corbett-Labatt. β€œNot only will it help provide faster and more accurate care for patients, but it will also support and protect our health-care workers by reducing the risk of workplace injuries.”

The province said nearly 4,000 X-ray exams were completed at Port Hardy Hospital in 2025 and the investment will help support timely access to diagnostic imaging for people in the region.
