Mechanical issue cancels sailings to and from Port hardy for more than two weeks

BC Ferries is cancelling sailings from Port Hardy to Bella Bella, Shearwater, Ocean Falls and Bella Coola for more than two weeks.

A service notice says a mechanical issue affecting a stern tube shaft seal put a vessel out of commission, requiring cancellations between Aug. 19 and Sept. 7.

“Our team has secured the dry dock space required to complete repairs. Based on the timing of the vessel’s dry dock availability and the time required to complete the necessary work, additional sailings must be cancelled,” the notice says. “A foot-passenger only water taxi and tug and barge service has been sourced to provide supplementary service to the mid-coast ports.”

A full list of cancelled sailings is available on the BC Ferries website.

“We understand the impact this will have on our customers and the communities we serve and are working to minimize service disruptions,” BC Ferries says. “If you are booked to travel on any of these cancelled sailings, we will automatically refund your fees and/or fares.”
