RCMP, DFO combine efforts for Salmon Days enforcement

Port McNeill RCMP and conservation officers issued multiple tickets during an enforcement campaign at the Salmon Days fishing derby.

They joined forces with Fisheries and Oceans Canada for the coordinated effort in waters surrounding Port McNeill and Malcolm Island.

“The joint operation utilized both DFO and RCMP vessels, allowing officers to conduct patrols throughout the area and engage directly with boaters participating in the busy fishing weekend,” reads an RCMP news release. “Throughout the operation, officers stopped and checked numerous vessels to ensure compliance with applicable fishing regulations, boating safety requirements and other federal and provincial legislation.”

Police said the operation allowed the three agencies to combine their resources, authorities and expertise to promote safe boating and responsible fishing.
