Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast residents vote in municipal elections

Today’s the day.

It’s general voting day for B.C.’s local elections, with Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast residents casting ballots to choose mayors and councillors, regional district directors and school trustees.

Voting places opened at 8 a.m. this morning, following advance voting over the past two weeks.

Check with your local municipality or regional district to confirm where to vote and what identification you may need.

UBC Government Relations says voters whose names are not on the list of registered electors may need to provide two pieces of identification, including one with a signature, to register at the voting place. Requirements can vary by jurisdiction.

Several communities are offering free transit to help voters get to the polls, including Campbell River, the Comox Valley, the Cowichan Valley, Powell River and Nanaimo. Some inter-regional routes are excluded.

Voting places close at 8 p.m
