Power out on North Vancouver Island

Almost 7,000 BC Hydro customers on the North Island are without power after a fault in the transmission circuit feeding North Vancouver Island.

The outage includes Port Hardy, Port Alice, Port McNeill, along with Alert Bay, Quatsino, Sointula, Holberg, Woss, Winter Harbour, Hardy Bay, and Mahatta River.

BC Hydro crews have identified the location of the fault and are heading to the area. An update on restoration time will be provided after crews get on scene.

The North Island College campus in Port Hardy is closed this morning – an update will be provided later this morning as to whether the afternoon classes will run.
