Port Hardy looking to ramp up power supplies

Local officials are eyeing up options for an alternate power supply for the region.

Port Hardy Council has reached out to BC Hydro for a meeting to discuss options for the North Island, following a major power outage that knocked out power to the area for more than 12 hours.

Mayor Hank Bood says they are looking a options like connecting to the wind farm or a run of river project to supply power should the transmission line from the south island fail.

Bood says they were pleased that Hydro was interested in sitting down to discuss what might be able to be done.
