Blaney working to include housing in Bill of Rights

The Member of Parliament for the North Island – Powell River has tabled a bill in the House of Commons to include housing in the Canadian Bill of Rights.

New Democrat Rachel Blaney was one of the members chosen to put forward a Private Members Bill during this parliament.

She says she chose including housing as a right is because affordable and appropriate housing is a challenge for multiple demographics, including those who are most vulnerable.

Blaney says she also hopes that by including housing as a right it will stop the downloading of responsibility for housing onto local governments and ensure all levels of government work together to address housing issues.
