Talking about the dangers of illicit drugs

The Provincial Medical Health Officer has sent a letter to parents and guardians, asking them to talk to kids about the dangers of illicit drugs.

Perry Kendall says with grad party season underway, it’s important that kids are aware of overdose dangers. “This year, more than ever any other year, the recreational drug supply has become very toxic,” he says.

The letter also includes links to resources to help parents talk to their kids about drug dangers.

Kendall notes that there have been 19 fatal overdoses in youth between the ages 14 to 19. He notes youths might be at parties where an overdose can occur, so it’s important they’re educated and prepared for that emergency to happen.

He says one thing they want teens to know is to not be afraid to call for help if you think someone is overdosing.
