Mounties stressing the importance of keeping valuables secure

As we enter the summer months, RCMP are reminding residents to secure their homes and vehicles.

Powell River Sergeant Kevin Day says they continue to respond to vandalism and break-ins to cars.

“It’s one of those crimes of opportunity. The summertime of course – people take advantage of the better weather [and] these things tend to happen more often in the summertime, that’s for sure.”

He says many communities across the province are filing a number of reports in regards to thefts from vehicles and unlocked spaces like garages and tool sheds.

Day says it’s important to keep your valuables out of plan sight and to report any incidents of theft or vandalism to police.
