Update: Wesley Ridge wildfire grows to nearly 500 hectares

The Wesley Ridge wildfire continues to grow and has reached nearly five-hundred hectares. The BC Wildfire Service estimates 494 hectares of forest has been burned since the fire was first noticed on July 31.

RDN issues evacuation order, alert as wildfire burns near Cameron Lake

The Regional District of Nanaimo has declared a local state of emergency and issued an evacuation order because of a wildfire burning on the north shore on Cameron Lake. The evacuation order is for the north side of Cameron Lake, including Wesley Ridge, Chalet Road and Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park at Cameron Lake. There is also an evacuation alert for other nearby locations.
