Cormorant Island ER Nighttime Closures Extended

The temporary overnight closure at the Cormorant Island Community Health Centre’s emergency department has been extended.

First initiated on August 2nd it was originally expected to end on August 16th, but has been extended multiple times and will now run until October 17th.

The closures remain in effect from 7pm until 8 am.

It’s the continuation of a health care professional shortage that has plagued North Island facilities and caused a multitude of closures over the past several months.

If you are experiencing an emergency on Cormorant Island during a nighttime closure, call 911, as Island Health has protocols in place to ensure that patients are transported to an appropriate alternate site.
