Port Hardy Hospital emergency department to close tomorrow

The Port Hardy Hospital’s emergency department will be closed tomorrow (Saturday) due to limited staff availability.

Island Health says it will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will reopen as scheduled on Sunday at 7 a.m.

While the department is closed, the Port McNeill emergency department will be open 24/7 and all other inpatient services will continue in Port Hardy and at the long-term care home.

Island Health adds anyone experiencing a medical emergency should either call 911 or go to Port McNeill. You should not go to the emergency department while it is closed because that will delay access to care, according to Island Health.

If you are unsure if you are having a medical emergency, they say to call 811 to speak with a nurse at HealthLink BC.
