With heavy rains on the way, crews prepare to keep highways clear

With heavy rain expected over the North Island during the next few days, Mainroad Contracting is letting people know crews will be out to keep drains clear.

Heavy rain up to 50 millimetres and winds up to 50 kilometres per hour are expected over the Northern Vancouver Island region during the next 24 hours. Even more is expected on Thursday afternoon and evening, with up to 75 millimetres in the forecast and winds up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Mainroad crews will be patrolling and clearing drainage areas on all services highways until the event passes, and roadways are clear and back to normal. Drivers are asked to watch out, slow down and move over for all roadside workers, and drive with caution.
