Have your say on DFO plans to reduce ocean noise pollution

There’s still time to comment on DFO’s plans to reduce the harmful effects of ocean noise on marine life.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Ocean Noise Strategy is open for public comments until October 22. The goal of the strategy is to develop a coordinated approach to better understand the threats posed by ocean noise from ships, industry, and other human activities.

The strategy will guide future partnerships and initiatives to minimize impacts on marine life, including the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whale population, which use sound to hunt.

The survey lets people rank the strategy’s recommendations based on importance. For example, it asks you to rank the importance of technologies that can reduce ocean noises at their source.

Visit the official strategy page to see more details, and to complete the survey.
