UPDATE: Port Hardy and south now under streamflow advisory

Communities around Kingcome Inlet east of Port McNeill are under a flood watch, and now there’s a high stream flow advisory in place for the Island from Port Hardy south to Campbell River, the entire West Coast, and the mainland coast.

A storm system is moving south along the coast, bringing moderate to heavy rain in the coming days.

Yesterday morning water levels at Kingcome Village were measured at 5.2 metres and rising, and the river could experience flooding in the coming days.

Elsewhere rivers and streams are at near-normal seasonal levels. The upcoming rain event could cause rapid flow increases, prompting the public warning. People should be cautious around streams and rivers as they could swell and pose risks to safety and property.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates.
