North Islanders hunker down to weather storm, power outages

Coast 1240 AM is currently off the air because of the power outages plaguing the entire Island today.

Most of Port Hardy, Port McNeill and the rest of the North Island have been without power since last night. BC Hydro currently estimates it will be restored sometime after 5:30 tonight.

Port McNeill has opened a warming centre at the fire hall in the meantime, for people to get out of the cold and charge their devices. Port Alice is doing the same at the community centre. In Port Hardy the Senior Citizen’s Centre is open as a warming centre until 4 pm today.
