Hospital foundation fundraising for only premature baby nursery north of Malahat

The Nanaimo Hospital Foundation is working to buy four special new beds for Vancouver Island’s tiniest patients.

The Nanaimo Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only one of its kind north of the Malahat. It looks after six new premature babies every week, and supports families from the North Island south to the Cowichan Valley.

Premature babies need incubators to stay warm, and the units in Nanaimo are getting old. The foundation aims to raise $300,000 on this coming Giving Tuesday to purchase four new incubators which are better for babies, and their parents. All donations from the public will be matched by an anonymous group of generous donors.

Giving Tuesday is December 3.

Visit the hospital foundation’s website for information about how to make a donation, and for more information about the incubators.
