Small tax to cover paid parking

A small property tax is one of the options being looked at to offset the new Campbell River Hospital’s paid parking.

Citizens for Quality Health Care spokesperson Lois Jarvis says many mayors have written to the ministry for support, and the ministry has also received hundreds of letter apposing the paid parking.

Jarvis says not everyone likes the idea of an extra tax, but it depends on how it is done.

Hospital district board chair Charlie Cornfield says the board has a mix of perspectives for who does and doesn’t support it, and the vast majority haven’t decided.

Citizens for Quality Health Care spokesperson Jarvis says if it is a small tax that won’t be increasing, it could be doable.
