Campbell River resident recognized with service award from MP Gunn

Campbell River volunteer Carol Chapman has received the first MP Distinguished Service Award from North Island–Powell River MP Aaron Gunn.

Gunn said the award recognizes citizens for outstanding contributions to their communities and Canada.

Chapman was recognized for more than four decades of volunteer service, including work with the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, Cops for Cancer, the Campbell River Storm and the SPCA.

β€œFrom helping to raise more than $150,000 for the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund to her work with Cops for Cancer, the Campbell River Storm junior hockey team, and her inspiring care for animals through the SPCA, Carol has been a tireless force in giving back to her community,” said Gunn in a statement on social media.

She is also credited with helping turn Campbell River’s Canada Day celebration into one of the region’s biggest annual events.

Chapman is the first recipient of the award, which Gunn said is part of a new community recognition program.
