Local organizations to receive over $800,000 for human and social services

Twenty-two organizations on the North Island will be getting funding for human and social services for under-served groups.

The $807,825 will benefit local organizations and is part of $61 million in community gaming grants from the province.

Organizations on the North Island include:

  • North Island Early Child Development Society receiving $31,200
  • John Howard Society of North Island receiving $60,000
  • The North Island Survivors’ Healing Society receiving $100,000
  • Multicultural and Immigrant Services Association of North Vancouver Island receiving $41,900

North Island MLA Michele Babchuk says the funding will help keep organizations going who are vital to the community.

“Community organizations like these do the important work of helping keep people safe, healthy, and happy,” said Babchuk. “In the North Island, people can be supported when they reach out for a hand.”

The grants also fund arts and culture, sports, human and social services, public safety and environmental conservation along with parent and district advisory councils of B.C. schools.
