Weekend coastal storms may bring flooding to North Island

Port Hardy and the surrounding area could see a risk of flooding, the River Forecast Centre warns.

A sequence of heavy storms are coming to the BC Coast this weekend and continuing into next week. Weather modelling suggests the first will start on the Central Coast today [Saturday] with a second coming on Monday.

The storms will be centred on the North and Central Coasts, but the weather systems may also graze the northernmost portion of Vancouver Island. Areas of highest rainfall accumulation may get more than 100 millimeters, with some regions even getting more than 200.

The rapid accumulation of rain may cause local streams and rivers to swell and cause flooding, the centre advises people to be careful and prepared.
