Popular Father’s Day Event Returns This Weekend

To celebrate Father’s Day, communities across BC are playing host to Family Fishing Weekend.

Owen Bird with the Family Fishing Society says the event started after the Province observed that angling activity was on the decline.

He notes this is a great way to raise awareness on the fun the water sport provides.

“Family fishing weekend coincides with a free license weekend that both the Federal and Provincial governments have made available…that means you can go out fishing for free, [and] you don’t need a license,” he says. Bird does note however, that there are some restrictions.

Communities taking part include Powell River, Port Hardy, Courtenay and Campbell River.

A full list and rules can be found through the BC Family Fishing Weekend website at: bcfamilyfishing.com. This year marks the event’s 18th annual installment.
